Vail Resorts, Inc. bills itself as "the premier mountain resort company in the world and a leader in luxury, destination-based travel at iconic locations." Vail Resorts is a vertically integrated operation that controls many of the companies that service resort visitors in their respective markets. The company's 3 primary operational units are as follows: the Mountain unit which owns and operates Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone and Heavenly and which includes lift ticket, ski & snowboard school, dining, retail and rental businesses; Vail Resorts Hospitality which owns and/or manages a portfolio of luxury hotels under the RockResorts brand (which consists of 8 properties located in both ski and beach destinations and an additional 6 properties currently being developed, 7 hotels and condominiums located in proximity to the company's ski resorts, three resorts at Grand Teton National Park and six golf courses); and Vail Resorts Development Company which holds, develops, buys and sells real estate in and around resort communities. Currently, Vail Resorts, through its hospitality and real estate entities, owns or is developing 44 projects in 6 states and 4 countries and manages 9 private clubs in or on their golf and ski resorts. Additionally, Vail Resorts owns Colorado Mountain Express (the only public transportation between Eagle County Airport, Denver International Airport and the company's Colorado resorts) and owns a majority of Specialty Sports Venture with more than 130 shops in every major ski resort in Colorado and with stores in the San Francisco Bay Area, at Heavenly Resort in California, and in Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Vail Resorts has a committed environmental policy in regards to energy use, climate change and waste management, but does not address the impacts of its expansion and development on wildlife, water, air or socio-economic issues. Vail Resorts and its subsidiaries are currently seeking or planning terrain expansions and/or additional real estate developments at all of their resorts.
